- ½ cup plain yogurt (full-fat, unsweetened)
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or ghee
- 3 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 8–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add yogurt, salt, and olive oil or ghee. Stir to combine.
- Gradually mix in flour and knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, divide into 6–8 equal portions, and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll each portion into an oval about ¼ inch thick.
- Heat a dry skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 1–2 minutes per side until golden with bubbles.
- Immediately brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic after removing from heat.
- Garnish with chopped parsley or cilantro and serve warm.
Notes
You can freeze cooked garlic naan for up to 2 months. Reheat directly on a hot skillet or in the oven. For a yeast-free version, replace yeast with 1 tsp baking powder and ½ tsp baking soda.
