Garlic Butter Steak and Cheddar Potato Bake is a hearty, oven-baked casserole loaded with seared steak strips, tender potatoes, and melted cheddar cheese all layered in garlicky herb butter.

Ingredients

Scale

Ribeye or sirloin steaks (2–3, depending on size)

4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

6 tbsp butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp olive oil

Salt & pepper to taste

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp dried rosemary

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Season steaks with salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary. Sear 3–4 mins per side. Set aside.
  3. In the same pan, melt butter and sauté garlic until fragrant (1–2 mins).
  4. Toss potato slices with half of the garlic butter, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  5. Slice the rested steak into strips. Layer half the potatoes, all steak, half the cheese.
  6. Add remaining potatoes, drizzle remaining garlic butter, and top with cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 mins. Uncover and bake 15 more mins until golden.
  8. Rest 5–10 mins before serving.

Notes

Letting the dish rest helps the layers set for easier serving. For a spicier kick, sprinkle in a bit of chili powder or cayenne with the potatoes.
